Day 3: Sunne to Stockholm Port, 1 July 2026
There was a slight delay towards the Route Check in
Sutterhöjden, due to a set of rolling roadworks, which
also delayed the Rally9s departure from the Filipstad
Time Control, adding extra time to the hydration break of
coffee and cakes. Next the Gravendal Regularity featured
another stellar landscape filled with lakes and lupins.
The Lunch Time Control in the Opera på Skäret
Restaurang added fuel to the fire and fanned the flames
for another busy afternoon which featured a Route Check
in Morskoga and another long Regularity through the
Finnåker forest into the wheat fields beyond. A welcome
stretch of highway then rolled us into the flat-out two lap
test at the GTR Motorpark in Eskilstuna, a superb way to
finish the day. The MTC was only metres away from the
stop board and with cold drinks and snacks to cool the
crews down, as another hot and dusty day came to an end.
Storm clouds had been brewing though and a surprisingly
wet 121km motorway drag took us to the Stockholm Ferry
Port where we boarded the overnight ferry for Turku,
Finland with its exceptionally well-provisioned buffet.
There were a few issues along the road today. Peter
Spak and Lisa Schnell9s cute little Käfer stalled over the
course of the morning with electrical problems. It needed
another coil fitting before completing the day with the
rest of the pack. Isabelle and Nicky Matthews9 Mercedes
suffered a puncture just after lunch but, with a little help
from a friendly local and a sweep crew, our only coupe
des dames contenders were soon rolling again. Tony and
Rachel Sheach9s Volvo coughed and spluttered through
the final Test, despite making the ferry with plenty of
time to spare. They9ve got some investigation to do once
they9re back on dry land.
