some, but which will become much more common as the
event progresses.
Älmhult, home of Ikea, passed by as we headed towards
the lunch Time Control in Millebygden. At the neighbouring
Millebygden Arena, a fast and loose Regularity ran through
a section of privately owned woodland. Whatever their level
of experience, the competitors enjoyed some sideways
sensations before getting back on the straight and narrow
for the Ynnabo Regularity some 75km further along the
road.
With the day coming to an end, the quirky Route 154
Restaurang in Älvsered hosted the final Time Control
before Gill and John Cotton sent the crews off to the
Backabanan Test for a two-lap taste of Scandinavian
rallycross, rounding off a stunning first day.
Three crews suffered mechanical mishaps today, but
all of them will be back on the road tomorrow thanks to
the prompt attention of the sweep crews. Peter Spak and
Lisa Schnell9s Volkswagen Käfer needed a new coil fitting
shortly before lunch. Martin and Frances Dippie9s Bentley
6½ broke down on the final Test with an electrical issue,
a new battery got them into the night halt, where wiring
was checked and connections tightened. Isabelle and Nicky
Mathew9s Mercedes also stalled on the final Test due to a
loose throttle linkage. This was a simple repair and, after
being towed off the track, the crew made it to the night
halt in Hindås under their own steam for a Spanish-themed
dinner in the Hjortviken Country Club.
Today was Andrew Twort9s birthday, so we wished him
many happy returns.
