Day 12: Geilo to Holmenkollen, 10 July 2026
Oli and Sabine Stastny, 1960 Volvo PV544
was unbelievable, and we were only driving at 60kph. Both
sides of the car had a very enjoyable time, and we’ve met so
many new people which we’ve really enjoyed”.
Ali continued, “I thought the rally was incredible, really
well planned with some beautiful scenery to enjoy. We’ve
both been lucky at times but very consistent. We’ve pushed
the car quite hard, but it’s solid - that’s how Ean built it and it didn’t break”.
Manuel and Irene were as much relieved, as happy to see
the finish line, as their car looked to be suffering over the
course of their last morning. Manuel explained, “We limped
to the finish with only seven of our eight cylinders working.
Although we changed one head gasket a few days ago, the
other failed this morning and at times the cabin filled with
smoke so we had to be very careful”.
“We’re a very good team, but we work better together
through both the Regularities. For the Tests, I drive, and
Irene just holds on. This has been a very good rally though,
with excellent roads and some great scenery.”
The Nordic Challenge had certainly lived up to its name,
and both Mark Appleton, the Clerk of the Course, and
Anthony Preston, the route designer and Deputy CoC, were
delighted.
“We’ve enjoyed twelve exceptional days of rallying with
some great cars and some fantastic people.” Said Mark,
“Scandinavia has put on a great show for us with its
stunning landscapes, a variety of weather, and plenty of
exceptional hospitality.”
Anthony then thanked a long list of in-country helpers
who’d made the event possible “ from Sweden – Jonas
Öhman, Catrin Svensson, and Krister Berglund, from
Finland – Jukka Aromaa and Asko Sairanen, and from
Norway – John Haugland and Oddvar Moland.”
Both of them paid tribute to the efforts of the Rally the
Globe team both at the event and back at the office in Leeds.
