Day 2
Deep into the Dales (168.8 miles)
12 June 2021
The first full day of the rally saw the cars and crews enjoy the very best of Yorkshire. The scenery was
staggering, the road surfaces were many and varied, the hospitality lavish and the sense of humour
borne by the local marshals and time keepers was straight from the left field.

Perhaps the star of the show however was the Rally the
Globe sun hat. This unassuming item was in truth greeted
with some scepticism when it was issued at signing
on. Today however, it more than proved its worth and
confounded its critics as a fierce - although very welcome
sun - beat down on the Dales.
As yesterday, today was a busy day which had the crews
alternately threading themselves through narrow walled
lanes, crawling up impossible gradients, plunging into
deep ravines and bowling across acres of empty moorland.
A total of five Regularities and seven Tests had been
shoehorned into the days mileage.
Despite this ambitious schedule, the first car left the
Yorke Arms at a very civilised 8.30am before taking on a
Regularity at Nab End, a Test and a fleeting glimpse of the
famous Ribblehead viaduct before a quick break for coffee
(and cheese) in the Wensleydale creamery.
The route then took in a Passage Control at Semer View,
a Regularity at Grinton Moor, a river crossing and a quick
