This hilly little venue is a legendary one for motorsport
enthusiasts and Mark Appleton, along with Andy Pullan
and the ever obliging Ilkley & District Motor Club marshals
had mapped out three intense, quick-fire tests around the
paddock and the perimeter. This was a hectic section for
sure and a civilised Time control at Castle Howard gave the
rally a chance to take a breath.
Another quick test then was all that stood between the
rally and the MTC, at Brimham Rocks where, perhaps still
imbued with the holiday spirit that they’d felt over lunch
in Whitby. Fred Gallagher and Loren Price had pushed
on ahead to transform one of the massive boulders into
a ‘pop-up cocktail lounge’ and a selection of nibbles and
refreshments were served up in the best tradition of an
endurance rally sundowner.
It’s hard to believe that tomorrow is the last day of this
event but sadly it is. And, tonight the rally was in a buoyant
mood over dinner with some eyeing up the well stocked bar
and threatening to embark on an unofficial night section.
