Day 4: Ramsgill - Hetton, 14 June 2021
Andrew Laing and Ian Milne, 1973 Datsun 240Z
There were no individual winners here but the team
prize went to Team Wensleydale comprising, Peter and Zoe
Lovett, Peta and Neil Oatley and Alan and Tina Beardshaw.
The Spirit of the Rally Award meanwhile went to Craig
McWilliam and Chloe Mackay for “gamely bringing one of
the more unsuitable cars to the rally, but not shying away
from anything thrown at them”. Additionally, their 1974
Maserati Indy certainly turned a few heads along the road.
Once the prizes had been handed out and the applause
had died away, the rally sat down to an exquisite farewell
lunch where stories were swapped and plans for the future
made. Praise was lavish and fulsome but Stephen Hardwick
summed it up succinctly with a “thanks to all, it’s been a
fabulous event”.
After such a long time away from their old cars and
their old friends, everyone agreed that this first Cloverleaf
had been a roaring success and indeed after three nights
of great hospitality at the Yorke Arms, the only criticism
heard from anyone was a slightly panicked “bloody hell, I
think that they’ve run out of Chablis”.

Next week we strike out to the Highlands for the second
of the Cloverleaf series and from what we’ve seen over
the last few days we can’t wait.
