Martin and Olivia Hunt’s 1937 Frazer Nash-BMW 328
Anthony Verloop professionally window cleaning the 1973 MGB GT V8
occurred under his bonnet somewhere along yesterday’s
route. This morning he found a carburettor float chamber
nut was missing and realised immediately that this was a
big problem and could have even led to an engine fire. No
spares were available locally but, whilst he and Russ Smith
were digging around and assessing the problem, the nut
turned up wedged firmly in a crevice just waiting to be
refitted - tightly.
Keith Graham and Susan Hoffmann’s Mercedes has given
them no trouble at all so far, save for a sticky roof folding
mechanism leading Susan to remark that “it’s a Mercedes,
what could go wrong?”
Anthony Verloop was dealing with the easy jobs first, a
spot of window cleaning with the finest Belgian mineral
water and a squeegee, before he’d lift the car and carry out
a precautionary suspension check.
Martin Hunt, winner of the Generations Rally and now the
new leader of this event, was delighted with his elevation,
but it’s not his first rodeo and right now he and Olivia are
not taking anything for granted.
Tomorrow we’re all back in the saddle, well rested and
with the bit firmly between our teeth.
