Siem Reap Rest Day

We enjoyed the most restful of rest days today with
an almost complete break from all things rally.
even the sweeps enjoyed a full day off because all
the hard work had been done last night.
today, the alarm calls were cancelled and, other than those
larks who wanted to see the sunrise at the famous angkor
Wat temple complex, we enjoyed the luxury of the sofitel
and the amazing breakfast before handing in some dirty
laundry and looking at the guidebooks.
siem reap is the gateway to the ruins of angkor, the
ancient capital of the Khmer kingdom from the 9th to 15th
centuries. it is famous for its temples and palaces, including
angkor Wat and angkor thom both surrounded by high
walls and deep moats. reclaimed from the jungle by a
French naturalist in 1860 the dozens of hindu and Buddhist
temples delight millions of tourists every year and also
feature on the Cambodian national flag.
other than the intricately carved stonework and soaring
architecture, visitors can also observe the solemn spirituality
of the monks from the siem reap monastery and the slightly
more mischievous monkeys which live in the grounds.
today is nigel Woof’s birthday and we’d like to wish him
many happy returns. What a place for a party!
