here there were plenty of cool drinks and snacks available, but most of the crews were keen to press on and deal with
the day’s fourth and final regularity. the Chom thong took us well off the beaten track and ran through thick groves of
lychees and mangoes on a variety of surfaces. the section was rough, narrow, dusty and great fun. unfortunately, otakar
Chládek and Jindřiška Žemličková’s mercedes-Benz 350 sl slid gracefully into a ditch towards the end and, with the route
blocked for later cars the Clerk of the Course, mark, was forced to get out his red pen and draw a line through the results.
85km of highway brought us to the shangri-la hotel in Chiang mai, another excellent poolside dinner and, as tomorrow
is a rest day, no one felt guilty about staying up a little later than usual.
