day 12: Chiang Mai Rest Day, 8 February 2024
Manuel and Irene Dubs’ Rockne is out of the rally with gearbox issues
an impact on the rockne’s performance, but manuel and
irene know it is only a matter of time before the gearbox
gives up completely and today we got the sad news that
the popular swiss crew won’t be continuing with the rally.
richard everingham and Judy Becker’s Bentley has been
struggling with the heat since day one. today richard
tried routing his fuel lines outside of the car, so that the
petrol would arrive at the carburettor slightly cooler and
hopefully won’t be so prone to vapourisation.
Whilst tony rowe was finishing his breakfast, mark
delling was busy cleaning the interior of the big Ford
and getting the car ready for some brake checks. With
the windscreen ajar, the scuttle mounted air scoop wide
open, and the side windows wound all of the way down,
the interior has been getting very dusty through some of
the regularities. a few minutes with a damp cloth and
small brush worked miracles. martin and gary Brauns’
mercedes has lost some of its door trim and the aC unit
is not working anymore, but today was all about basic
spanner checks. Keith ashworth had his electrical kit open
looking to sort out an indicator fault that’s been plaguing
his Bentley. norah has been on signalling duties for a few
days now, if he gets this fixed it’ll give her left arm a wellearned rest.
unlike almost everyone else, nigel dowding was in the
fresh air in front of the hotel looking at his aston martin.
he knows this car inside out and today was just a regular
spanner check. the head gasket he replaced two days ago
isn’t giving any cause for concern - long may this continue.
