after lunch, the na Po regularity
saw the jungle of the morning give
way to neatly manicured pineapple
fields and dragon fruit groves, at
times only metres from the laotian
border.
the loei Palace hotel proved to be
a lively night halt for our new year’s
day layover. the catering department
was obviously in fine fettle and trays
of kebabs, spaghetti bolognese, baked
potatoes and creme caramel surprised
many of us who’d become accustomed
to rice, pork and morning glory.
