Day 20 Namkat Yorla Pa to Điện Biên Phu (218km)
16 February 2024
We headed back into vietnam today for the final push to hanoi. on the way we climbed to an almost
deserted frontier post at 1200m, crossed dozens of rivers and enjoyed some of the finest roads that
this rugged and remote region had to offer.

there was a lot of ground to cover, but also time for a little
competition and straight from the gates we were tackling
last night’s regularity in reverse. Backward through the
terraced fields and past stilted huts used when the paddies
are in flood. the road along the nam Phak river wound
through village after village and gave us the odd sighting
of an elephant and its mahout working on the opposite
bank, shifting logs and clearing forests as we slowed to
acknowledge the hundreds of cheering children.
the leefaiy guest house time Control was our last
laotian coffee stop of the entire rally. it was strategically
situated just before we began the climb towards the Pang
hok frontier at the northern tip of the annamite mountain
range. Claire and michel’s border crossing machine was
once again in full swing. much of the paperwork had
already been dealt with and, in just a matter of minutes,
we were back with our vietnamese agents, Kenny, marilyn,
Kayjey and the 4u tours team.
