Today was a day of highs and lows, with a climb
to a viewpoint at 1170m and a sea level cruise to
lunch. There was also an opportunity for the crews
to put on their race faces - as well as helmets, long
trousers, and fully enclosed foot coverings - with
two Tests at either end of the day.
In between, a pair of Regularities and two Time Controls kept
the rally rolling towards Niigata, via the country’s beating
heart of agriculture. As the most prolific rice growing
prefecture, it is known throughout Japan for its high-quality
sake, but also for its flower growing, including azaleas,
lilies, and tulips. The region lays claim to being the origin of
ornamental koi carp, so much associated with Japan.
