We finished our circumnavigation of the Izu
Peninsula today, having started the day with a
beautiful Pacific sunrise and blue sky coastal drive.
This ushered us past dozens of fish restaurants,
and a giant statue of King Kong, towards the first
Time Control at the Ito Marinetown. Here we found
those essentials of rally life: toilets and coffee.
After this welcome break, amidst the yachts, the fleet
began the Crooked Road Regularity. As its name suggests,
this was a steep, and seriously sinuous, section beginning
almost as soon as we’d cleared the tops of the masts and
ran through a dense bamboo forest towards the panoramic
Izu Skyline Road.
