Day 18 Lake Hamana to Nara (286km)
Today began with a run alongside the 10th largest
lake in Japan, Lake Hamana. The route took us
through groves packed with citrus fruit and
apples, as we made our way to the first Regularity,
through Kuragari Gorge, a short section of dark,
damp and downhill tarmac bordered by waterfalls
and wildflowers.

A popular spot for outdoor recreation, today we didn’t have
any spare time to hike in the woods because Toyota, one of
the world’s most important automotive manufacturers, had
invited us to lunch and a tour of their amazing museum in
Nagakute.
Naturally we’d accepted and were pleased to see two of
Rally Director, Fred Gallagher’s Safari Rally cars in pride of
place in the entrance hall. Fred was a Toyota team co-driver
