After a day away from the tyranny of the time
card, we just about managed to drag ourselves out
of our rest day torpor and forsake the delights of
The Westin Miyako for another day on the road.
taking us back to the wilderness and a run through bear
country alongside many fish-filled streams. This flowed
neatly into the New Canada section for a little taste of
British Caledonia, which appropriately ended with a set of
snow gates.
The Time Control in the time capsule at Kayabuki-no-Sato
Village provided us with a glimpse into a bygone Japanese
era. Tea and coffee were served alongside houses built
around 220 years ago, during the Edo and Meiji periods,
some of which still feature thatched roofs.

And it was to be quite a challenging one, with a Test and four
Regularities to keep the crews amused. An early morning
reveille sounded at the Biwako Sports Land, where a two-lap
circuit Test opened the day’s proceedings.
The subsequent Regularities began with Care Bear!
