Day 22: Miyazu to Kurashiki, 10 October 2025
chance to marvel at some huge trees and to reflect on the
contrast between the traditional Japanese houses and the
modern solar farms powering them.
The third Regularity of the day was called Yoshi’s
Playground and was, without doubt, the day’s showstopper.
6km of gravel tracks and countless direction and gradient
changes. Once finished, it was curtain down on the
competition at the immense Himeji Castle, Japan’s first
World Heritage Site and the largest, most visited castle
in Japan. It also starred as Tiger Tanaka’s ninja training
school in “You Only Live Twice”.
The night halt was an easy drive down some top-quality
tarmac to the Royal Art Hotel in Kurashiki. The town dates
from the Edo Period, spanning the 17th and 19th centuries.
A canal network with gondolas, dozens of arts and crafts
shops, cafes and boutiques, gives this town a very special
character and many of the crews took the opportunity to
explore before dinner.
