Day 24 Kochi to Hiroshima (345km)
12 October 2025
Bridges featured heavily again on today’s route, along with a few tunnels, some sharp corners and a
short but intense session of off-camber, downhill gluteus tightening. We also left Shikoku and returned
to Honshu for a two-night stay in Hiroshima.

The day began in a sedate Sunday morning fashion and saw
us visiting a Passage Control at the Nagoya Submersible
Bridge amidst a steaming jungle, alive with insects and
local tourists. Spanning the lower reaches of the Niyodo
River, and with no railings or parapets, the bridge becomes
wholly submerged during floods. Although once common,
these Chinkabashi have slowly been replaced with common,
rail-equipped bridges. This area of Shikoku is one of the
few places where these iconic landmarks still stand.
Having crossed the lazy Niyodo River, we joined the
Kamiyawa River for a brisk run to the mid-morning coffee
Time Control at the Road Station Musasabi no Sato.
