It takes a lot of work (and blood, sweat and occasional tears!) to put together an event like
this, a lot of which happens behind the scenes, so we want to thank everyone who was
involved in making the Islands of Japan Marathon happen.
• Fred Gallagher – Route Director, and whose brainchild
the event was.
• Dick Appleton and Paul Heal (& Owen Turner) –
responsible for driving the lonely road of the Advance
Car, making sure everything runs to plan for you all.
• Mark Appleton – Clerk of the Course, responsible overall
for all of the competition side of the event, including
all the hard work in printing Bulletins each evening and
treble-checking Results.
• Our mechanics team – Andy Inskip, Charlie Neale, Russ
Smith and Owen Turner helped all 22 cars make it all the
way to the finish line.
• Iain Tullie – Deputy Clerk of the Course assisting Mark
throughout the rally, and Fred’s companion and driver
during more than a month of recceing.
• Our talented media team – Gerard Brown photographing
and providing content for the daily rally reports, and
Ryan Hallett & Marcus Jones on filming duties.
• Loren Price – Marketing & Event Manager, making sure
everyone has a bed to sleep in and plenty of food to eat
along the way and countless other tasks that make the
event run seamlessly.
• Andrew Kellitt and Audrey Rudd – based back in the
UK spending their mornings collating and publishing
Results every day, with Andrew also providing all the Test
diagrams.
• Jordan Mitchelldyer – our Interim Event Coordinator,
who helped put together all the information sent out to
you in advance about the event, and was first port of call
for all of your questions.
• Karen Leahy, Ben Wood and Gill Marcucci – our UK based
support team who make sure the website is updated each
day, put together the designed Daily Dispatch, post all
our films and photos on social media and make all our
printed and online material look so good!
• Kitty Burdett – back from maternity leave, Kitty kept the
office running whilst we were away.
And a few other people we need to thank…
• Helen Oates – Rally the Globe’s Finance Director, and
responsible for all the paperwork that keeps our team
and vehicles safe whilst we travel
• Our sponsors RM Sotheby’s – for all their support as one
of our key partners
• Gill and John Cotton – expert marshals, friendly faces
on the road and Gill responsible for checking all of the
Results each day.
• Into Japan – our local agents, who we’ve been working with
closely for the last two years to make this a memorable
event. Thank you to everyone there, but especially Naomi,
Akiko, Aya, Sally, Jamie and Jack.
• Jim Smith – our equipment and Test guru, who
occasionally is required to display some expert Tetris
skills to fit all the cars in small parking areas.
• Dr John Llewellyn – our calm and efficient Doctor, who
can always be relied on for local historical and tourist
information.
• Sarah Ormerod – medic support, marshal, but more
importantly responsible for looking after Fred for a
whole month.
• Damian Kirov – puts all of the recce drawings, notes and
scribbles into the polished Road Books you receive, and
helps with new tulips at short notice for bulletins during
the event. And all the way from Bulgaria!
• Venues – we couldn’t do this without all the hotels,
cafes, restaurants, test venues and everywhere else who
welcomed us so warmly when we visited on route!
A massive thank you to every single person who was a part of this adventure!
