El Clavel enjoyed a shorter day today with ‘only’
three Regularities on a loop taking us coastward
to skirt the one-time ‘end of the known world’
at Cabo Fisterra. It was a much cooler day as the
Atlantic winds made their presence felt.
Nick Brayshaw and Kate Bradley also had a day-off thanks
to carburettor issues, by the day’s end things appeared
to have been sorted and the crew are hopeful of restarting
tomorrow. In a preplanned crew switch, the chain gang has
a new navigator as Craig McWilliam said adios to Chloe and
hola to Agnes, who will be reading the notes to the finish line.
The first Regularity ran rings around Lousame, on a maze of
narrow tarmac rising and falling through villages, a eucalyptus
forest and equine pasture. Thanks to the Organisers’
deliberate use of sophistic diagrams and descriptions, the
section proved little trickier than it appeared.
Sadly, the cool air came too late for Vinnie and Diana Hayes’
Bentley which didn’t make it onto the start list. No amount
of midnight oil solved yesterday’s heat related electrical
gremlins and they sat out the day to ponder their options.
