Day 3
Durham Dales (94 miles)
All good things must come to an end they say and
today we bid farewell to the 2023 Generations
Rally. We’ve seen some great competition through
some fantastic landscapes and the final day’s
action was set for County Durham. This ancient
Land of the Prince Bishops was the perfect stage
for today’s drama which saw an incredibly tight
fight for the top spot in the classic category.
it may only have been a half day on the road, but there was
a lot of action in the shape of three Regularities and three
Tests. And, as yesterday, there was no change to a winning
formula with the first Test running around the Slaley Hall
golf course. After repairing their divots and raking the
bunkers a Regularity at Hamsterley was next and with some
welcome sunshine it turned out to be a very pretty one. The

cars rolled in and out of some beautiful woodland and past
fields filled with the season’s new lambs before a quick
blast through a Test at Raby Castle and a coffee break Time
Control in the grounds.
There was another Test at Streatlam, followed by a
Regularity through Weardale and a Passage Control high on
Stanhope Common, before the Final Regularity of the event
at Muggleswick. This gave the crews some epic driving
thanks to the showers of sleet, the amazing landscape and
the series of tight hairpin bends.
Slaley Hall and the prize-giving lunch were all that was
left now and, under the arch in the courtyard, shouts of
congratulations, back slapping and the chink of beer
bottles rang out over the sound of some very tired engines.
Whilst the rally could take their foot off the gas, the results
team were shifting into top gear, sifting through literally
hundreds of time cards to verify the overall positions
which were almost too close to call.
